The government is going honor my warranty?

As my loyal readers know I own a 2008 Corvette. I've posted about "her" here and here. A luxury item to be sure and one we’ve worked very hard to purchase. But I’ve got to tell you, my Vette gets better gas mileage than the 2007 Dodge Caliber we have. I’m not kidding. I average 22.8 miles to the gallon and I don't need an oil change until I hit the 15 THOUSAND mile mark (we will of course change it next month at 5k miles), not bad for a 438 horsepower, 8 cylinder sports car.

Now I’m not sayin’ you should trade in your minivan, heavens no, how are you going to haul all your children to soccer, hockey and dance? What I am saying is I like the option to decide what I want to buy and drive, not the government. To say GM is going to emerge from chapter 11 producing better, more fuel efficient automobiles is just more folly by Giggles the new “Government Motors” CEO.

Now don’t get me wrong, I hate having to hand over my gas money to the evil Saudis. And every time we do we run the risk of financing an attack somewhere by some crazy muslim. But the technology isn’t even close to becoming viable and quite frankly, I don’t think the majority of Americans want to drive around in a Smart Car. I know I don’t. And how in the world are you going to take more than ONE child anywhere? Safely I might add.

America is the birthplace of the muscle car; Mustangs, Firebirds, the Camaro and the original sports car, the Corvette. Our love for fast cars is not unique, Dinah Lord had a post regarding “American Car Days” in Tehran of all places. They sure love our cars....

We also love big trucks and SUV’s. A few years ago a Bob Seger song was the Chevy truck theme song, Like a Rock, do you remember? That’s America, that song is the American spirit;
Stood there boldly
Sweatin’ in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I'd never felt that strong
Like a rock

America is a unique and special place, we’re like no other country on the planet. It doesn’t matter what GM rolls off the assembly line, Americans will patronize Ford to get their truck fix. I know there will be another Mustang GT or Cobra in the Janice “stable” of cars.

I never did like being told what to do and I’m not going to let the “government” start now.

Being big fans of America ourselves...loving our country and doing our part...we have always had Fords or Chevy's. Last year we needed to get a new car. We decided to look at GM. Hubby wanted a PT Cruiser until he decided he was claustrophobic in one.

I fell in love with a Pontiac Vibe. So did he. Gas mileage is 30mph (that was BEFORE Obama decided to make mandatory requirements, mind you!) Price was fantastically low. We bought it AND the extended warranty.

Now Pontiac will be going by the wayside.

If our government REALLY wants to help us: limit the number of foreign cars imported to the US. Close some of the Kia and Toyota dealerships instead of the GM and Chrysler ones.

The reason foreign cars tend to do better (not of late they don't!), and cost less is our government is subsidizing our competitors more than they do us!

I'm with Janice. And our government better darn well be glad we WANT to purchase "homegrown".

As for those who want to drive a foreign car? Good for you. You should pay more because it's made out of the U.S. They should raise the taxes on the foreign cars thus fulfilling VP Biden's definition of "patriotic".

I'm tired of our government selling our country and our rights out from under us. We are suffering from "taxation without representation".

I wonder if the Supreme Court would hear such a case....

Thank you for your 2 cents Tsofah!

I'm a 3rd generation Chevy owner and it broke my fathers heart when I bought my 96 Thunderbird and a 96 Mustang GT (within 10 months) instead of a Camaro, LOL.

I found my way back to Chevy's in 2001 & 2002 with the purchase of 2 more Camaros, to his delight.

Sadly, with the racist soon to be confirmed I don't hold out much hope for the court.

Janice for President!

You know what a big fan of GM, I am, (or was) Miss J. I've been in mourning since Monday.

This is a great damn post.

I don't think you need to worry about your warranty, Janice. All about the hopechange and he will take care of you. We all know that when the government gets involved with something - anything - it gets better, right? How do you feel about waiting in line, like at the DMV, for that new fan belt you need? See? Nothing to worry about. Nothing at all!

Thanks Sabra, I almost forgot. Sarcasm OFF
